Gap partners with Barclays for new credit card launch

Gap Inc. has introduced a new credit card program in collaboration with Barclays US Consumer Bank and Mastercard. The initiative, first announced last year, designates Barclays as the official issuer of Gap Inc.'s co-branded and private label credit cards in the U.S. and Puerto Rico via the Mastercard global payment network.

Current cardholders, totaling 10 million, will transition to this new program and receive their updated cards later this month. Interested customers can apply for these cards online or at any retail store across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

The newly launched Navyist Rewards, Gap Good Rewards, Banana Republic Rewards, and Athleta Rewards Mastercard cards offer benefits such as earning five points per dollar spent at Gap Inc.'s brands and one point per dollar elsewhere where Mastercard is accepted. A special promotion offers five points per dollar spent from June 1 to September 30, 2022, for new accounts opened during this period.

Chris Samway, Senior Vice President at Gap Inc., expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are very excited for our new partnership with Barclays and Mastercard, and to continue enhancing our program benefits.”

The rewards program allows points to be redeemed in increments of 100 points or $1 at Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, and Athleta without an annual fee. Cardmembers start at the Enthusiast level with various perks including free shipping on orders over $50.

Cardmembers spending over $1,000 annually or earning 5,000 points upgrade to Icon level with additional benefits like faster shipping options.

Bill Crabtree from Barclays commented on the partnership's impact: “We are thrilled to partner with Gap Inc. and Mastercard to offer a suite of credit cards that elevates rewards.”

A unique aspect of the rewards program is its "Do Good" component allowing members to donate reward points towards social causes supported by both Gap Inc. and Barclays.

The credit cards feature a recycled plastic core made from ocean-bound plastic waste collected within proximity of waterways.

Mastercard’s Linda Kirkpatrick noted their alignment with values of inclusion and sustainability: “Mastercard is thrilled to work with Barclays and Gap Inc., companies that share our values.”

Gap Inc.'s existing cardholders should use their current cards until June 19 before switching to their new Barclays-issued cards starting June 20.
