The demand for real-time data and transaction processing has led to a significant increase in the adoption of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) by Bank of America's business clients. Over the past year, there has been a 51% rise in clients using APIs, spurred by innovations that have streamlined onboarding and expedited transaction speeds.
Tom Durkin, head of CashPro® in Global Payments Solutions at Bank of America, noted, “CFOs face enormous pressure to know their exposure and cash position at any given time. APIs play a strategic role in positioning companies to act on information quickly, in a fully automated and secure manner.”
Bank of America offers these APIs through its digital banking platform CashPro, which is utilized by 40,000 companies. Many treasury management systems (TMS) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) providers also host CashPro APIs. This network comprises 55 TMS and ERPs, contributing significantly to the rise in API usage. Notably, 78% of clients using CashPro APIs do so through one of these network participants.
Jennifer Jewett from Jetcraft Corporation shared her experience with CashPro APIs: "As our company has grown globally, it’s no longer practical to manually process and consolidate reports. I need to be able to respond to questions like ‘what’s my cash balance?’ almost immediately. CashPro APIs is the ideal solution—it’s brought automation to our treasury and increased efficiency for my team."
The CashPro Developer Studio is also fostering growth by enhancing and accelerating the API onboarding process. Clients can start live reporting within one week for both current and previous day transactions across all accounts.
Maureen Jarvis, head of Business Banking GPS at Bank of America, stated, “The turnkey experience we’ve created through the CashPro API network and the CashPro Developer Studio has been transformative. Smaller companies are able to get the same strategic benefit of APIs as their larger peers.”
Globally, organizations use CashPro APIs for various payment transactions:
- Nonprofit organizations send emergency relief payments via Zelle, ACH, debit cards, and digital wallets.
- Healthcare and insurance companies replace checks with Zelle, ACH, and RTP® transactions.
- Companies in Brazil process 600,000 Boletos monthly using APIs.
- A convenience store chain automates driver payments with instant payments via Zelle.
- European companies utilize APIs for SEPA Instant Credit Transfers.
