Navy Federal partners with USO in $9 million commitment for military support

Navy Federal Credit Union has announced a new partnership with the USO, committing $9 million to enhance programs for servicemembers and their families. This investment aims to implement existing USO initiatives and create new programs that address the unique needs of the military community. The collaboration focuses on providing financial wellness education and resources for early-career servicemembers and their spouses.

Recently, Navy Federal's leadership, including President and CEO Dietrich Kuhlmann and Chief Operating Officer Kara Cardona, attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new USO Center aboard the USS Truman in Norfolk, Virginia. Kuhlmann expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Combining the strengths and shared commitments of our two institutions, Navy Federal Credit Union is thrilled to partner with the USO in such a tangible, meaningful way.”

Financial challenges are prevalent among military households compared to civilians. A survey by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling highlighted that military families often face more financial difficulties. They tend to rely on savings for daily expenses and struggle with credit card payments more than their civilian counterparts.

Navy Federal and the USO aim to tackle these issues by enhancing financial resources available to servicemembers. J.D. Crouch, CEO and President of the USO, expressed excitement about this collaboration: “Together, we will work to drive meaningful impact that strengthens the overall well-being of servicemembers and their families.”

Navy Federal offers various free financial education resources like its online education center MakingCents and a digital Mortgage Learning Center. Similarly, the USO provides programming designed to alleviate financial stressors for servicemembers.

Established in 1933, Navy Federal serves over 13 million members worldwide as a not-for-profit organization focused on meeting its members' financial needs. The USO has supported U.S. military personnel since 1941 through various global programs.
