Navy Federal begins operating overseas military banking facilities

Navy Federal Credit Union has begun managing the Department of Defense's Overseas Military Banking Facilities, branded as "Community Bank." This initiative is part of the DoD's Overseas Military Banking Program. The facilities will now carry the name "Community Bank, Operated by Navy Federal Credit Union."

Kara Cardona, COO of Navy Federal, stated, “The Overseas Military Banking Program fits our core values at Navy Federal and is consistent with our primary mission of supporting Active Duty military members and their families.” She emphasized that serving military families through this program aligns directly with the credit union's mission.

Navy Federal will manage 60 existing Military Banking Facilities (MBFs) and 272 ATMs located on designated DoD military installations across Europe and the Pacific. These facilities offer services such as access to foreign currency, local ATMs, bill payment options, savings accounts, checking accounts, and other financial services for installation personnel and commands.

Despite this operational change overseas, these MBFs will continue to function as separate entities.

Navy Federal Credit Union was founded in 1933 with just seven members. Today it serves over 13 million members globally and is recognized as the world's largest credit union. It operates on a member-owned and not-for-profit basis, prioritizing its members' financial needs. Membership is available to all Department of Defense and Coast Guard Active Duty personnel, veterans, civilians, contractors, and their families. The organization employs more than 24,000 individuals worldwide and maintains a network of 355 branches.
