Record number apply for Bank of America Chicago Marathon's upcoming race

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is set to inform runners today about their selection status for the 2025 event. This marathon, the concluding event in the Bank of America Chicago Distance Series, has seen a record number of over 160,000 applicants vying for participation. Successful entrants will join an anticipated record-breaking field with more than 53,000 participants expected to finish at Grant Park on October 12, 2025.

The growing interest in this marathon reflects increased participation in related events such as the Shamrock Shuffle 8K Run and Chicago 13.1, which together form the Bank of America Chicago Distance Series. In 2024, these events saw over 81,000 finishers with around 2,700 completing all three series events. Organizers are introducing new logos that connect each event and highlight their unique attributes.

Executive Race Director Carey Pinkowski remarked: “Today we welcome a new field of participants to the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and launch the next chapter of the Bank of America Chicago Distance Series.” He added that since starting the series in 2023, they aimed to celebrate both newcomers and longtime participants within the running community.

For those interested in participating in future events within this series, early registration is advised due to high demand. The marathon offers guaranteed entries for legacy finishers and other categories but also supports a charity program allowing entry through fundraising efforts.

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon Charity Program has raised over $322 million since its inception in 2002 for various causes. The program includes partnerships with numerous nonprofit organizations covering diverse cause categories like education and healthcare.

In addition to the marathon on October 12, other notable events include the Bank of America Chicago 13.1 half marathon on June 1 and the Shamrock Shuffle on March 23. Each event promises unique experiences through historic routes and community celebrations.
