Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) President and CEO Rebeca Romero Rainey has expressed approval for the inclusion of a farm bill extension and a $10 billion farm aid package in the year-end continuing resolution. The resolution will also provide assistance to citizens recovering from weather-related disasters, as urged by ICBA in a public statement.
"ICBA and the nation’s community banks thank congressional leaders for including a $10 billion farm aid package in the CR that is moving toward potential enactment later this week," stated Rainey.
The financial difficulties faced by many farmers and ranchers due to low commodity prices, high input costs, and declining revenues have been highlighted by ICBA. The organization believes that the farm aid package will support producers experiencing economic losses and help community bankers maintain access to affordable credit for these producers.
"We urge Congress to include the $10 billion farm aid package in the final CR and thank members of Congress for their willingness to address the challenging economic situation facing American farmers and ranchers," added Rainey.
The Independent Community Bankers of America aims to create an environment where community banks can thrive through advocacy, education, and innovation. These banks are seen as vital sources of credit, contributing to job creation, economic prosperity, and supporting customers' financial goals.
