Congress passes funding bill with farm aid extension

The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) has expressed approval for the recent congressional passage of a funding bill that includes an extension of the farm bill and a $10 billion aid package for farmers. This legislation, part of a year-end continuing resolution, also provides disaster funding for communities affected by hurricanes and other severe weather events.

ICBA President and CEO Rebeca Romero Rainey commented on the legislative developments: “ICBA and the nation’s community banks applaud Congress for passing a continuing resolution (H.R. 10545) to keep the government running, to extend the farm bill for one year, and to provide $10 billion in economic assistance for our nation’s farmers and ranchers."

Rainey further noted the importance of this bill: “Importantly, the bill also provides necessary funds for disaster assistance for many hurting communities adversely impacted by recent hurricanes and other weather-related disasters."

She acknowledged Congress's efforts in addressing these crucial needs: “We thank Congress for addressing the important needs of the agricultural community, which is the foundation of rural America and our nation’s food security.”

Previously, ICBA had urged Congress to include these measures in its legislative agenda through a public statement.

The ICBA aims to foster an environment where community banks can thrive. They support America's community banks by advocating effectively, providing education, and promoting innovation. These banks use their relationship-based business model to drive local economic growth by investing deposits back into their communities.
