ICBA appoints Peter Nelson to enhance member engagement

The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) has appointed Peter Nelson as senior executive vice president of member engagement. Nelson is set to begin his new role on February 10, where he will focus on enhancing the overall experience for ICBA members. His responsibilities will include aligning the organization's services to meet the evolving needs of community banks nationwide.

Nelson comes from Glenwood State Bank in Glenwood, Minnesota, where he has been president since 2006. Under his leadership, the bank's assets grew to $556 million, maintaining its status as a vital part of the local community. Glenwood State Bank was chartered in 1907 and remains a founding member of ICBA.

"As a lifelong community banker, I have a deep appreciation and respect for the vital role of local financial institutions in fostering economic well-being," Nelson stated. "Through responsible lending and community reinvestment, community banks help millions of Americans realize their financial goals every day."

In his new position at ICBA, Nelson will oversee several key areas including Member Relations, Marketing and Communications, and State and Volunteer Relations. His efforts will be directed towards increasing member engagement and enhancing delivery channels for ICBA's products and services.

Nelson has been an active volunteer with ICBA over the years, serving as chairman of the Policy Development Committee. He also served as chairman of BankIn Minnesota in 2023. His wife Kari will temporarily take over as president of Glenwood State Bank.
