United States Senator Elizabeth Warren, serving as the Ranking Member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, issued a statement regarding President Trump's dismissal of Rohit Chopra from his position as Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
Senator Warren highlighted Chopra's efforts in leading the CFPB to hold Wall Street accountable for practices that adversely affect American families. She noted that under Chopra's leadership, the agency has returned over $20 billion to consumers since its inception. The CFPB has focused on protecting Americans from issues such as junk fees, medical debt, and predatory lending.
Warren emphasized President Trump's previous campaign promises to cap credit card interest rates at 10% and reduce costs for Americans. She argued that achieving these goals requires a strong CFPB and an effective director. "But if President Trump and Republicans decide to cower to Wall Street billionaires and destroy the agency, they will have a fight on their hands," she stated.
The senator's office is located at 534 Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C., where she can be reached at (202) 224-7391.
