Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) President and CEO Rebeca Romero Rainey has expressed gratitude to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent for his service as acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). This follows President Donald Trump's decision to appoint Bessent in this interim role.
"ICBA and the nation's community bankers thank Secretary Bessent for taking on the role of acting CFPB director on an interim basis," said Rainey. The ICBA is actively advocating for reforms within CFPB regulations, aligning with their 'Repair, Reform, and Thrive' plan targeted at the new Congress and administration. This initiative was also highlighted in their recent open letter to the 119th Congress.
"We look forward to working closely with Secretary Bessent, the Trump administration, and the 119th Congress to implement needed CFPB regulatory reforms to help community banks meet the needs of local communities," Rainey added.
The ICBA aims to create an environment conducive to community banks thriving across America. By promoting effective advocacy, education, and innovation, they support these financial institutions in fostering economic prosperity through relationship-based business models.
