JPMorgan Chase & Co. has announced plans to significantly expand its presence in Alabama by tripling the number of branches in the state and hiring over 170 additional bankers by 2030. This move is part of the firm's broader strategy to enhance access to financial services across Alabama.
The expansion will increase the total number of Chase branches in Alabama to 35, making it more convenient for over half of the state's population to access a branch within a reasonable drive time. Jennifer Roberts, CEO of Chase Consumer Banking, stated, "Alabama is a vibrant state with a strong manufacturing economy, good small business growth, and burgeoning aerospace and technology sectors. Our mission is to support economic growth and foster opportunity for all."
Chase opened its first branch in Alabama five years ago near Auburn University. Currently, there are seven branches in Greater Birmingham and 11 statewide, including locations in Auburn, Tuscaloosa, and Huntsville.
In 2024 alone, Chase built more than 150 new branches across 34 states. The Madison Boulevard location near Huntsville will officially open on February 8. Jennifer DiSalvo, head of Chase branches in Alabama, expressed optimism about the expansion: "Since we opened the first branch in our state, Alabama has greeted Chase with open arms... Now that we’re tripling the size of our Alabama branch network, we’ll be able to help more people."
The bank serves as a financial partner for approximately 22,000 businesses across various industries in Alabama and caters to over 555,000 consumer customers. As part of its expansion efforts, JPMorganChase aims to strengthen partnerships with local organizations.
Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle welcomed this development: “This news will also help to create more job opportunities for the hardworking people of Huntsville.” Representative Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) added that North Alabama continues attracting investment from both public and private sectors.
To further integrate into local communities, JPMorganChase hired Geno Gardner as its first dedicated community manager for Birmingham. Gardner will work alongside community leaders and non-profits as an ambassador for JPMorganChase's initiatives.
Additionally, JPMorganChase plans to hire a Small Business Consultant focused on helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses. The firm remains committed to supporting workforce development and small business growth through partnerships with local nonprofits like ¡HICA! and others.
JPMorganChase has been providing banking services in Alabama since 1973 and continues investing in local industry through financing projects such as affordable housing units' development or rehabilitation while supporting vital institutions like higher education or healthcare facilities throughout this region.
Carlos E. Alemán from ¡HICA! emphasized how important these efforts are: “Together we are investing in future prosperity," while Bob Dickerson from Birmingham Business Resource Center noted that this focus strengthens collaboration possibilities between organizations towards meaningful progress within communities statewide.
