American Fintech Council congratulates Jonathan Gould on comptroller nomination

The American Fintech Council (AFC) has extended its congratulations to Jonathan Gould, the nominee for Comptroller of the Currency. The organization also outlined its priorities for advancing responsible innovation within the financial services industry. AFC commended Gould's leadership and commitment to strengthening the banking system.

Phil Goldfeder, CEO of AFC, expressed enthusiasm about Gould's nomination, stating, "Jonathan Gould’s nomination to be Comptroller of the Currency is an exciting opportunity to advance responsible innovation and inclusion in financial services." He highlighted Gould's work on the "Madden Rule" and his efforts to support innovative companies as key qualifications for leading the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).

In a letter addressed to Gould, AFC emphasized several priorities for the OCC. These include reengaging on True Lender issues to clarify regulations around bank-fintech partnerships and addressing inconsistencies in state laws due to a lack of federal guidance. The council also urged the OCC to enhance its focus through the Office of Financial Technology and develop supervisory materials tailored for assessing new business models and risks.

Ian P. Moloney, SVP and Head of Policy and Regulatory Affairs at AFC, praised Gould's dedication to fostering both innovation and consumer protection. Moloney stated, "Throughout his time both at the OCC and in the private sector, nominee Jonathan Gould has shown a clear commitment to creating a financial system that supports both responsible innovation and consumer protection."
