U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren has expressed concern over efforts to reduce pressure on Russia amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Marking three years since Russia's full-scale invasion, Senator Warren criticized President Trump for what she perceives as inadequate measures to maintain a unified front with allies.
"The United States worked together with a global coalition to provide military support to Ukraine and impose sanctions and export controls to degrade Russia’s war machine – giving us leverage to help secure a just peace for Ukraine," stated Warren. She accused President Trump of "bullying and negotiating around Kyiv" and failing to effectively utilize the power of a united G7, potentially weakening Europe's defense against Russian aggression.
Senator Warren warned against Russian negotiators attempting to lure President Trump with promises of economic benefits, stating, "Congress should oppose irresponsible attempts to unwind measures that keep the pressure on Russia." She emphasized the need for the Administration to block Russia's efforts at sanction evasion, particularly through alliances with China, Iran, and North Korea.
Warren commended the resilience of Ukrainians fighting for democracy and urged Congress not to undermine efforts toward achieving peace in Ukraine. "I commend the bravery of the Ukrainian people who have fought on the front lines of democracy for three years," she said.
The statement was issued from her office in Washington, D.C., highlighting ongoing international tensions and calls for continued support for Ukraine's sovereignty.
