General Motors has announced an overhaul of its GM Rewards loyalty program and introduced the new GM Rewards Mastercard, issued by Barclays US Consumer Bank. The redesigned program aims to simplify the process for customers to earn and redeem points across various GM brands for vehicles, services, parts, and accessories.
Ralph Darmo, Vice President of loyalty programs at GM, stated, "GM has led the U.S. automotive industry in loyalty for a decade2, and now we’re rewarding both our new and existing members with easier access to savings opportunities and new ways to engage with us." He highlighted exclusive experiences available only through GM, such as trackside access at racing events and EV excursions.
The partnership with Barclays allows cardholders to earn points on everyday purchases like food, shopping, and travel. Points can be redeemed towards vehicle purchases or upgrades. Denny Nealon, CEO of Barclays US Consumer Bank remarked, “We’re proud to partner with GM to deliver a credit card that puts real value in customers’ hands.”
John Levitsky from Mastercard expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: "Mastercard is thrilled to partner with GM and Barclays in offering exciting benefits tailored to cardmembers’ lifestyles.” The card offers 30,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 within 90 days of opening an account among other benefits.
Existing cardholders are advised to continue using their current cards until August 25 when they will receive replacement cards from Barclays. Later this year, a business-specific version of the card will launch offering higher rewards rates.
The updated loyalty program allows members greater flexibility in earning points across Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac brands as well as digital services like OnStar plans and Super Cruise. Points can be combined with employee discounts or used towards financial account balances under certain conditions.
