Truist Financial Corporation has introduced a new financial education program called Truist Life, Money, and Choices™, tailored specifically for high school and college students. The initiative aims to provide participants with realistic financial scenarios and choices to empower them with essential skills for their financial futures.
Anthony Weekly, Truist's Chief CRA/Community Development Officer, expressed enthusiasm for the program, stating, "As we close out National Financial Literacy month, we are thrilled to launch this initiative, which directly aligns with our purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities."
With the recognition of the increasing complexities in the modern financial landscape, Truist acknowledges the importance of equipping young adults with the knowledge and tools necessary to make informed financial decisions. The program comes in response to the fact that only 25 states require high school students to take a personal finance course, leaving many young people ill-prepared for financial challenges as they enter adulthood.
Truist Life, Money, and Choices provides students with comprehensive resources and interactive learning opportunities designed to enhance their understanding of key financial concepts. The program is offered free of charge through community organization partners.
The initiative kicked off with a session at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School, featuring a scalable, in-person training module where participants explore different financial strategies and understand the consequences of their choices. The program includes up to 12 learning stations, each representing various expenses and decisions, with participants guided by Truist teammates.
Participants are assigned personal financial profiles and transaction ledgers to record their financial decisions as they navigate through the stations. The immersive experience includes "Life Happens" scenarios representing unexpected financial situations that test the participants' financial acumen.
At the conclusion of the training, participants gather to debrief on key learnings, receive an overview of budgeting principles, and are connected to additional resources like Truist Money & Mindset content to further their financial education journey.
Truist encourages high schools, colleges, and community organizations to participate in the program to benefit from its transformative learnings. Organizations interested in hosting the training can reach out to [email protected]
