Tim Scott Calls for FDIC Chairman's Resignation Amid Workplace Culture Concerns

Ranking Member Tim Scott (R-S.C.) has issued a statement regarding the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) report on allegations of sexual harassment and a toxic work culture at the agency. Scott emphasized the need for Chairman Gruenberg to resign, stating that the organization's culture has suffered under his leadership. Scott has been leading Senate Republicans in oversight efforts to ensure transparency and accountability from the FDIC.

"An organization’s culture is set from the top. It’s clear the FDIC, its mission, and most importantly, its employees, have all suffered under Chairman Gruenberg’s leadership – this report underscores that fact. It’s time for Chairman Gruenberg to resign so the FDIC can move forward with the leadership it deserves and desperately needs to ensure employees and the important work of this agency are supported. Given the Chairman’s nearly two decades in leadership at the FDIC, the findings of this report cannot be separated from his actions. I look forward to continuing to lead oversight efforts in the Senate and ensure transparency and accountability from the FDIC."

Ranking Member Scott had previously promised to conduct rigorous oversight to address the reported problems at the FDIC and restore a respectable office culture. He called on Chairman Gruenberg to provide detailed information on the allegations and resign from his position. Despite promises of transparency from Gruenberg, Scott renewed his demands for information and reiterated his call for the Chairman to step down.

FDIC employees can confidentially contact Ranking Member Scott’s Committee staff to report any information regarding misconduct at the agency, including sexual harassment, discrimination, or other abuses. They can email RepWhistleblowers@banking.senate.gov or call 202-224-4287.
