Electronic Payments Coalition (EPC) Executive Chairman Richard Hunt issued a statement on Senator Dick Durbin’s recent legislation targeting American companies and workers who have opposed the Durbin Marshall Credit Card Bill.
“Here we go again. It is hard to say what is worse, weaponizing the federal government against companies and workers opposing your legislation or doing it so shamelessly," said Hunt.
Hunt further commented on the bill's implications: “This bill is about nothing more than protecting campaign donors through an ‘all of government’ approach to advance legislation padding their bottom lines and making it harder for small businesses on Main Street to compete. If Senators Durbin and Marshall really want to lower prices for consumers and protect points, they should drop their ill-conceived, misguided legislation instead of embarking on a government-wide retribution tour.”
The EPC believes that investing in new technologies and legislating national data security standards will create a stronger payment system.
