The American Financial Services Association (AFSA) closely monitored the legislative elections held across 44 states during the recent general election. While the presidential race was a primary focus, these state contests were also significant.
Ahead of the elections, AFSA's State Government Affairs (SGA) team published its "2024 Elections Preview Report" and "AFSA State Election Watch 2024: Volume 2," which detailed crucial races in legislative, gubernatorial, and attorney general contests. The reports emphasized competitive races that could alter political dynamics, particularly in battleground states like Arizona, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Following the November 5 elections, SGA released "Volume 3," which provided results and noted notable changes such as Michigan’s House transitioning to Republican control and Pennsylvania’s attorney general race switching from Democrat to Republican. Despite these shifts, many gubernatorial and attorney general races retained their previous alignments. Key legislative races in Minnesota and Pennsylvania remain undecided.
All updates from SGA's election analyses are accessible through the SGA elections archive on AFSA’s website.
