American Fintech Council launches initiative supporting wage access for working Americans

Today, the American Fintech Council (AFC) introduced a new initiative called "Workers for Wage Access." This initiative aims to provide a platform for working Americans who depend on earned wage access (EWA) as an essential financial option. The goal is to help these individuals manage their finances independently by sharing their stories and making their voices heard by government representatives.

The launch includes an interactive map showcasing nearly 150,000 letters from Americans in response to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) proposed rule on EWA from July 2024. These letters expressed concerns about potential limitations on affordable and accessible EWA products. The map, available on AFC's website, allows policymakers and advocates to see the impact of EWA across Congressional Districts.

"Workers for Wage Access" seeks to build awareness and support for EWA nationwide. Phil Goldfeder, CEO of the American Fintech Council, stated, "Regulatory rulemaking too often ignores the voices of those most impacted by their proposals: working Americans. Workers for Wage Access will elevate and amplify the voices of the nearly 150,000 everyday Americans who strenuously oppose misguided efforts to limit their financial options."

Tenisha James from Connecticut shared her experience with EWA: “Earned Wage Access was a game-changer for me.” After losing access due to state regulations, she emphasized how it helped her cover unexpected expenses without resorting to costly alternatives that could damage her credit.

Looking forward, AFC plans continued collaboration with bipartisan members of Congress and intends to work constructively with incoming CFPB leadership under the Trump administration. The council remains committed to ensuring that consumer protections are upheld while maintaining access to essential financial tools.
