The American Financial Services Association's (AFSA) State Government Affairs team has published its 2024 Post-Election Report, highlighting significant changes in state-level political power following the recent elections. The report indicates that Republicans have made notable advances, including taking control of Michigan’s House and reducing Democratic control in Pennsylvania.
In contrast, Democrats have achieved a tie in the Arizona Senate and successfully dismantled Republican supermajorities in North Carolina and Wisconsin. Despite these gains, Vermont lost its Democratic supermajorities, while Republicans bolstered their positions in Kansas and South Carolina.
In gubernatorial contests, Republicans maintained their hold on New Hampshire. Meanwhile, Democrats managed to flip attorney general seats in both North Carolina and Pennsylvania. These shifts are expected to influence governance dynamics across several states.
