State trifecta changes after 2024 elections: Michigan and Minnesota lose Democratic control

AFSA's State Government Affairs team has published an overview of the state trifecta and majority status following the recent elections. Michigan and Minnesota lost their Democratic trifectas due to losing control of their respective state houses. In contrast, New Hampshire Republicans maintained their trifecta, though by narrow margins.

After the 2024 election, there are now 38 state government trifectas where a single party controls both the legislature and the governor’s office. These updates are available alongside SGA’s 2024 State Election Watch Series in the SGA elections archive section on AFSA’s website.
