The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has seen recent changes in its leadership. Andrew Ferguson, previously a confirmed commissioner of the FTC, has assumed the role of Chair as of January 20th. This transition follows President Trump's oath of office. Ferguson takes over from former Chair Lina Khan.
Ferguson's career includes serving as Virginia Solicitor General from 2022 to 2024 and working as chief counsel for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. He also held positions such as Chief Counsel for Nominations and the Constitution under then-Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Lindsey Graham, and Senior Special Counsel to then-Judiciary Chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley.
Additionally, Mark Meador has been nominated by President Trump to serve as an FTC Commissioner. His nomination awaits Senate approval. Meador's background includes experience at the FTC where he worked on antitrust cases early in his career and time spent as a staff member for Sen. Mike Lee.
In a memo to staff, Commissioner Khan announced her upcoming retirement from the FTC, creating an opportunity for Meador's appointment. The American Financial Services Association (AFSA) expressed its congratulations to both Ferguson and Meador, stating their anticipation of collaborating with them on issues related to credit access for Americans.
