AFSA, along with other financial trade groups, has expressed its support for H.R.1777, also known as the "Securing and Enabling Commerce Using Remote and Electronic (SECURE) Notarization Act." This legislation, introduced by Representatives Cliff Bentz (R-OR) and Madeleine Dean (D-PA), aims to allow the execution of essential documents through two-way audiovisual communication.
Currently, 44 states have already recognized the advantages of Remote Online Notarization (RON) and have enacted laws to authorize its use. In the previous Congress, the Secure Act was passed unanimously by the House.
The House Energy & Commerce Committee is anticipated to consider advancing the SECURE Notarization Act later this year.
