The AFSA Education Foundation recently participated in a financial literacy roundtable hosted by the U.S. Treasury Department's Offices of Community and Economic Development and Consumer Policy. The event, titled "Empowering Americans in Underserved Communities through Financial Literacy," featured discussions with partner organization representatives and included Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent sharing his personal financial literacy story.
During Financial Literacy Month, the AFSA Education Foundation engaged in various activities. These included attending the Treasury event, releasing new lesson plans for MoneySKILL, and being featured on the Long Story $hort Money Management International podcast. Executive Director Rhonda Ashburn also appeared on the Retirement Daily Roundtable podcast with TIAA Institute head Surya Kolluri, hosted by Robert Powell CFP. The discussion focused on improving financial literacy among Americans and highlighted MoneySKILL's effectiveness.
The Foundation expressed gratitude for the support from AFSA members during Financial Literacy Month and throughout the year. Details of monthly activities for May can be found under the Events section at www.moneyskill.org.
MoneySKILL is a free personal finance curriculum supported by AFSA members' generosity. It serves learners from middle school to college and beyond, having empowered over 1.5 million students, teachers, and other users since its launch in 2002.
