AFSA Chief Economist Tim Gill participated in a panel at Used Car Week 2025 to discuss trends affecting the economy and the automotive industry. The panel, titled “Inside Automotive & the Economy,” was moderated by Nick Zulovich of Cherokee Media Group. Other panelists included representatives from Black Book, CarGurus, and TransUnion.
During the discussion, Gill addressed how both consumer and business resilience have been important factors in shaping economic and auto sector performance in 2025. He also commented on inflation and interest rates as critical elements influencing the outlook for 2026.
Gill stated, "The capacity of consumers to shoulder further large cost-of-living increases is likely limited." He indicated that ongoing challenges could restrict further growth if living costs continue to rise.
The event provided an opportunity for industry experts to exchange views on current economic pressures and their potential impact on businesses and consumers in the coming year.
